Rocky Horror

Rocky Horror Picture Show was one of the most obvious queer movies we have yet to watch out of all the movies we have watched. This was a 1975 movie that had several cross-dressers within the movie as the two main characters, Brad and Janet walked into an odd fashion mansion where they quickly meet Frank-N-Furter. It's very interesting how this movie had several queer-like sections such as both main characters giving in to sexual intercourse as it clearly showed that Frank and Brad were somewhat gay. I wanted to focus on the question of the word "Aliene." As we know at the very end of the movie we know that Frank was killed by his comrades that are Aliens, as they were also exactly the very same as Frank.

We quickly hear Fred's comrades the Riff and Raff say to him that it's time we go back to the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania. This was the most important sentence in the whole movie in my opinion because we quickly figure out that these people were actually aliens the whole time which is very interesting since they were all cross-dressers and queer. We take this odd word "Aliens and wounder does this word have any relationship or underline meanings for this movie since they were the cross-dressers. Are they trying to say that any crossdresser or queer person at that time in real life was out of the ordinary as if they were implying that they weren't humans, to begin with? Within the text passage, we had to read talks mostly about the fact that this movie was made to help make people feel better about being queer. "It is therefore inspiring to people who have never felt like they belonged, to see someone like Frank" (Hadjis).
In my opinion, I thought this movie was very interesting but, I did think it was very odd that they would ever release a movie at its time because during this time we know that being queer or cross-dressing was highly looked down upon by people as most of the time these movies wouldn't get a lot of review, even sometimes removed. Instead, we have a movie that was able to take flight so much that even today we have events based upon this movie. This movie can give both positive and negative thoughts on being queer, for example, we know that the movie called these cross-dressers Aliens which could make the movie based on the idea of giving negative thoughts about them. On the other hand, this movie could be a positive thing to help give hope to the queers and crossdressers, saying that you can be the way you want to be and not worry anymore since this movie didn't get removed. it helps to encourage people to keep pushing on for a change and for hope.

  1. After the in class discussion about this movie I quickly realized how motivating important this video was to people. I also quickly found some very interesting ideas and opinions from my classmates as we talked and argued on some topics that were based upon this movie. One thing I learned was near the very end of the movie where we see Fran in the pool the painting of creation was painted on the pool's floor. This was very interesting to me because we then quickly discussed was this painting trying to represent that all people were created equally by god that even aliens that were supposedly called queer were actually made by god and loved by him? In the end we still didn't figure out whether or not this movie was supposed to be pro queer or not pro queer based on the information and facts that we collected as a whole class that day.
