Rocky horror picture show: shameless joy- Nyssa

Rocky horror picture show is a fantastic film that still holds up today in bringing laughter to people. having seen it multiple times it is STILL fantastic and always with the watch!

I didn't ever look too deep into the queer themes of the movie getting lost in the wonderment of the film though thinking about it critically it offers some intriguing ideas. It is hard to tell whether queerness is endorsed in the film as Tim curry gives such enticing energy to frank while playing someone cold and murderous. In my perspective of him however, yes he is murderous, but he is defensive. the mansion he and his people live in appears to be a safe space for queerness but he has a volatile reaction the moment things don't entirely go his way. its not super pronounced but one can pity him in his situation that all that he had was crumbling because of his own wild and free ways.

Brad and Janet are great foils to Frank being the definition of "straight couple" at the beginning of the movie. Their home world was one restrictive normality and initially they only wanted return to their old world but in the end they got pulled into franks. after leaving the mansion they would most likely not see the old world the same maybe even somewhat disliking it as they redefined their boundaries. There is so much more to get into but that would take up pages.

Follow-up

After the class discussion I never thought about the cult like connections so much. Thinking back to the movie it does feel very cult like the way they pull brad and Janet into their group and they come to accept their ways eventually giving into Frank. the other topic I didn't think about all that much before even though its mentioned in the previous post was if queers were portrayed well or not.

thinking deep on it, I think it does portray them more as good than bad though with a message. Frank and his people have an incredibly good time throughout the film and provide frank and Janet the ability to express themselves. all in moderation would be a good message I think. The freedom given by the mansion is good but not without the binding order of the outside world.
